About Me

Shayla is a dedicated nurse, nurse educator, and author with over a decade of experience in maternal-newborn nursing. Her passion lies in empowering both her patients and readers by teaching them how to care for themselves and their newborns.

She has an impressive academic background, holding a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Tennessee State University, a Bachelor of Nursing from Samford University, and a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Walden University. Shayla is a certified registered nurse with specialized certifications in maternal-newborn nursing and clinical lactation counseling. She is also an active member of AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses).

Though she never set out to become a bestselling author, Shayla’s journey as a first-time author was driven by a desire to offer a fresh perspective on maternal and newborn care for expectant parents. Her motivation comes from her commitment to her most vulnerable patients—babies. She believes we owe it to them to provide the best start in life, while also recognizing the importance of giving ourselves grace and making informed decisions throughout the process. Shayla’s goal is to help expectant parents navigate the early stages of their journey with confidence and success.

Outside of her professional life, Shayla loves DIY projects. Her most cherished creation is her brooch bouquet from her wedding. She enjoys spending quality time with her husband and son, whether it’s watching movies, assembling puzzles, or dining out together.
